Shikhar Dhawan recently announces his retirement from cricket.

Star southpaw Shikhar Dhawan recently announced his retirement from international and domestic cricket on Saturday. In a heartfelt video message, he expressed his gratitude to fans, family, and coaches for their unwavering support throughout his career. It has been two years since he last represented India in international matches. In an interview with Hindustan Times following his retirement, Dhawan was asked about potential actors who could portray his role in a biopic. The former opener expressed openness to playing the role himself but suggested Akshay Kumar and Ranveer Singh as other suitable choices.

I would love for Akshay Kumar or Ranveer Singh to do my biomic: Shikhar Dhawan

“I would love it, only if it is made well. As for me acting in it, I would happily do it in case I added any value to the film. As for other actors, I would love for Akshay Paaji (Akshay Kumar) to do it, or even Ranveer Singh, for the sheer energy he has,” Dhawan was quoted as saying.

Dhawan expressed his contentment as he retired from cricket, having represented India in all three formats since his international debut in 2010. He made his debut in an ODI against Australia in Visakhapatnam.

“As I close this chapter of my cricketing journey, I carry with me countless memories and gratitude. Thank you for the love and support! Jai Hind,” Dhawan said in a post on ‘X’.

“It’s important to turn the page to move forward in life and that’s why I am announcing my retirement from international and domestic cricket. I am leaving with peace in my heart that I played so long for India,” he added.

Shikhar Dhawan's legacy

Dhawan represented India in 34 Tests, 167 ODIs, and 68 T20Is. His most successful format was ODIs, where he scored 6793 runs at an average of 44.11. In Tests, he averaged 40.61 with 2315 runs.

Shikhar Dhawan's international career began in the 2004 ICC U19 Men's Cricket World Cup, where he showcased his batting prowess by scoring over 500 runs, including three centuries. Six years later, he made his India debut in 2010 in an ODI against Australia in Visakhapatnam. Dhawan's Test debut in March 2013 was a memorable milestone as he achieved the fastest Test century on debut, in just 85 balls. Known primarily as an ODI specialist, Dhawan excelled in tournaments like the Champions Trophy 2013. He played a key role in India's title win, finishing as the highest run-scorer with 363 runs at an impressive average of 90.75. His consistent performances extended to other tournaments such as the Asia Cup 2014, Cricket World Cup 2015, Champions Trophy 2017, and Asia Cup 2018. Dhawan is a rare breed in Men's ODI history, being one of the few batters to score over 5000 runs at a 40-plus average and a 90-plus strike rate. The other Indian batters in this elite group are Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma. Dhawan's last international appearance came in 2022 in an ODI against Bangladesh in Chattogram. His final competitive match was in this year's IPL when he led Punjab Kings in April 2024.
