India A's campaign in the Asia Cup Rising Stars tournament ended with a thrilling defeat to Bangladesh A in the semifinal. The match went down to the wire which saw the match getting into Super Over after both teams found themselves locked at 194-6.
Bangladesh A knock out India A from Asia Cup Rising Stars
India, batting first, couldn't score a single run in the Super Over. In reply, India did manage to give Bangladesh an early after Suyash Sharma dismissed Yasir Ali on the first ball. However, Suyash bowled a wide down the leg side in the next ball, which decided the outcome of the match, and Bangladesh made it to the final.
India A began their campaign impressively with a victory over the UAE. However, they subsequently lost momentum, suffering a defeat against arch-rivals Pakistan Shaheens. India A managed to secure their place in the knockouts by winning their final group match against Oman, securing the necessary qualification.
Meanwhile, Bangladesh A enjoyed a fantastic start to the tournament, winning their first two games convincingly. Although their winning streak was broken with a loss against Sri Lanka, they still managed to qualify for the knockout stage. Their advancement was secured thanks to a strong Net Run Rate (NRR). But in a thrilling affair, Bangladesh managed to held their nerves and downed India to make it to the title clash.
Bangladesh now await the winner of the second semi-final, which will be contested between Pakistan Shaheens and Sri Lanka A.
Habibur Rahman's solid 65 takes Bangladesh to 194/6
Earlier in the day, after being put into bat, Bangladesh A delivered a powerful batting performance to post a formidable total of 194/6. The innings was anchored by opener Habibur Rahman Sohan, who struck a superb 65 runs off 46 balls, an effort punctuated by five sixes and three boundaries. Crucial late momentum was provided by SM Meherob, whose blistering, unbeaten knock of 48 off just 18 deliveries—including six sixes and a four—propelled his side to a strong total.
Priyansh Arya's quickfire 23-ball 44 in vain
In their pursuit of the target, India A matched Bangladesh blow for blow, starting at a scorching pace. Openers Priyansh Arya hammered 44 off 23 balls, while Vaibhav Suryavanshi blasted a quickfire 38 off just 15 deliveries, effectively keeping India's chase on track. However, India A began losing wickets at key junctures, which meant they needed 16 runs off the final over to secure victory.
The final over, bowled by Rakibul Hasan, was filled with high drama. He conceded two singles before Ashutosh Sharma swung the momentum back in India’s favour with a six and a four. With four runs required off the final two balls, Ashutosh was bowled out after a brisk 13 off 6. This left India needing four runs off the last delivery but they managed only three, tying the scores at 194 and pushing the thrilling clash into a decisive Super Over. Despite Nehal Wadhera remaining unbeaten on 32 off 29 balls, his efforts fell short as Bangladesh A clinched the match and marched into the final.
