Sri Lanka A capitalized on a solid batting track to reach a commanding 288/5 by stumps on Day 1 of the second unofficial Test in Galle. The charge was led from the front by captain Sahan Arachchige, who anchored the innings beautifully with a resilient, unbeaten 83. His steady presence kept the visitor's bowling attack at bay for most of the day, forcing the India A bowlers to grind out their over allocations on a surface that offered very little assistance.

Sri Lanka A build strong foundation despite India A’s late strikes
Hoping to breathe fresh energy into their side, India A shuffled their lineup ahead of the match, introducing Aman Mokhade, Zeeshan Ansari, and Gurnoor Brar into the playing XI at the expense of Ayush Pandey, Harsh Dubey, and Anshul Kamboj. However, the tactical overhaul did little to disrupt the home team's rhythm early on. Despite electing to bowl first, the Indian attack was made to sweat as Sri Lanka A's top order demonstrated sharp discipline and application from the very first ball.

The host's foundational work was laid by Pawantha Weerasinghe and incoming opener Sohan de Livera, who successfully navigated the initial threat to put together a 53-run opening partnership. India A finally broke the deadlock in the 16th over when Yash Thakur extracted de Livera for 28. While Weerasinghe looked highly settled for his 39, he followed his opening partner back to the dressing room just before the Lunch break, falling to a well-directed delivery from Gurnoor Brar to leave the game beautifully balanced in the first session.
Sri Lanka A hold the edge after gritty opening day
Nuwanidu Fernando inject-ed immediate momentum into the afternoon session, signaling his intent early by dispatching Gurnoor Brar for consecutive boundaries on his way to a fluent 44. He stitched together a dangerous 57-run partnership with Ashen Bandara, threatening to take the game away from the visitors before Saransh Jain provided the crucial breakthrough in the 37th over. However, the recurring theme of Sri Lankan batsmen throwing away promising starts persisted, as Bandara was also dismissed for 34 in the 47th over just as he looked set for a big score.

Sahan Arachchige shines bright with solid 83
Despite the regular breakthroughs, India A's frustrations mounted as skipper Sahan Arachchige joined forces with Anjala Bandara to rebuild the innings, guiding the hosts comfortably to 192 for 4 by the Tea interval. Arachchige looked completely unperturbed by the spin or pace attack, reaching a well-constructed half-century in the 64th over by driving Auqib Nabi to the fence. The Indian bowling unit was made to toil deep into the final session, finally breaking a mammoth 99-run partnership in the 77th over when Saransh cleaned up Anjala for a well-made 42.
Despite losing his partner late in the day, Arachchige remained an absolute rock at one end, safely negotiating the second new ball and any tricky spells the Indian bowlers threw his way. His unbeaten 83 ensured that the home side did not squander their hard work, anchoring Sri Lanka A to a highly secure 288 for 5 at the close of Day 1. The performance leaves the hosts firmly in the driver's seat, while India A will need a flurry of early wickets on Day 2 to pull themselves back into the contest.
