Ayush Mhatre-led India Under-19 team outclassed Australia Under-19 in the first Youth Test, beating them by an innings and 58 runs in Brisbane within three days. After a high-scoring Day 2 where Vaibhav Suryavanshi and Vedant Trivedi scored centuries, Aussie batters failed to put up a fight and were bowled out for 127 on Day 3. With the ball, Deepesh Devendran picked up eight wickets, including a fifer in the first innings. 

Starting at an overnight score of 8/1, Aussies lost the wicket of Steven Hogan early to Deepesh Devendran. Opener Alex Turner gave in to pressure and got caught behind off Kishan Kumar's bowling. Skipper Will Malajczuk and Zed Hollick tried to do damage control. Spin came into play and left-arm spinner Khilan Patel dismissed Malajczuk and Hollick in consecutive overs. Wicketkeeper-batter Simon Budge had a short stay at the crease as he got out for a three-ball duck to Anmoljeet Singh. Anmoljeet and Patel got one wicket each to remove Tom Hogan and John James respectively. The hosts were 67/8 in the 39th over.

Aryan Sharma realised that there is no point hanging around. Aryan entertained the crowd, hitting four fours and three sixes. He scored 43 runs from 44 balls before falling to Kishan in the 47th over. Devendran wrapped up the proceedings with Tom Paddington's wicket. Hayden Schiller remained not out for 16 off 31 balls. Australia were bowled out for 127 in the 50th over, losing the match by an innings and 58 runs.

Devendran’s fifer, Suryavanshi-Trivedi’s tons

Earlier, on Day 1, Malajczuk won the toss and opted to bat first. Despite Steven Hogan's 92-run knock, Australia were bowled out for 243 in 91.2 overs as Devendran picked up a fifer and Kishan claimed three wickets. 

In reply, Suryavanshi smashed Aussie bowlers around the park. He hit nine fours and eight sixes in his 86-ball 113. Trivedi batted more patienty and scored 140 runs from 192 balls, featuring 19 fours. Later, Patel's run-a-ball 49 helped India post 428 and take an 185-run lead.

India target cleansweep

The second Youth Test is scheduled to begin on October 7 in Mackay. After a cleansweep in the Youth ODI series, Mhatre-led will look to do same in the red-ball series.
