The second T20I between India Women and South Africa Women has been abandoned due to rain in MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai on July 7. With a victory in the first game South Africa takes a lead of 1-0 in the ongoing three-match T20I series. After being asked to bat, South Africa scored 177 runs in 20 overs but the hosts India were unable to bat due to continuous rain after the first inning.
South Africa scored 177 runs
South Africa scored 177 runs in the second T20I where Tazmin Brits scored 52 runs in 39 balls including six fours and a maximum for for the visitors. Anneke Bosch scored 40 runs in 32 balls with six fours. For India Pooja Vastrakar and Deepti Sharma were the pick of the bowlers.
South Africa benefits from the washout
After the first innings, there was heavy rain in Chennai ground and then the situation did not improve. Due to this not a single ball could be bowled in the second innings and the match was declared cancelled. While South Africa benefited from the cancellation of this match, it became impossible for the women's team India to win the series. Now if the team captained by Harmanpreet Kaur has to save the series, then it will have to win the last T20 match at any cost. Otherwise, after losing the ODI series and the only Test on the India tour, South Africa's women's team can go home with the T20 series trophy.
The third and last T20 match of the series will be played on 9 July at the same venue and this will be the do-or-die match for Women in Blue.
