India and Pakistan are both part of the inaugural edition of the Emerging Women’s Asia Cup in 2023, and the two teams have also been grouped, alongside Nepal and Hong Kong. The tournament, which kicked off on June 12, has India's U19 Women's T20 World Cup heroes such as Shweta Sehrawat and Parshavi Chopra in the team, as well as heroes from the Women's Premier League (WPL) like Shreyanka Patil and Kanika Ahuja.
The two teams will face off in Mong Kok on June 17.
India A won their first match of the competition in an ecstatic fashion against Hong Kong. Shreyanka Patil's brilliant figures of 5/2 in three overs, including a maiden over, fizzled the hosts out for 34 runs in 14 overs. Opener Mariko Hill was the only Hong Kong batter with a double-digit score while four batters failed to even open their accounts.
Needing just 35 runs to win the game, India captain Shweta Sehrawat was dismissed cheaply. The right-handed batter departed after scoring two runs off four balls. Uma Chetry and Gongadi Trisha combined for an unbeaten 28-run partnership for the second wicket that ensured India's win in just 5.2 overs with 88 balls to spare.
Meanwhile, Pakistan secured a win as well, albeit it was a hard-fought one, over Nepal. They were bowled out for 87 runs, with opener Shawaal Zulfiqar their highest scorer at 28 runs. In response, apart from Kabita Kunwar of Nepal, who scored 20, and Kabita Joshi, who scored 15 runs, no one was able to touch double digits.
