In preparation for the five-match Test series against England, the 'A' team, which will play the Lions in two four-day matches over the May–June window, is expected to include some of India's top players. India will try to win the first away series at the Old Blighty since 2007 when they start their 45-day trip to England on June 20 with the first Test at Headingley.
"The first four-day match will be hosted at The Spitfire Ground, St Lawrence in Canterbury from May 30. The second match is scheduled to begin a week later on June 6 at the County Ground in Northampton," the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) said in a statement.
Since the league's elimination stages will take place on May 20, 21, and 23 before the final on May 25, all of the top Indian cricket players currently have contracts with their respective IPL teams. As per the PTI report, Karun is expected to join the team. As things stand now, Karun Nair might be on the flight, and it provides the selectors ample time to reveal the India A squad before the tour to England.
With 863 runs from nine games at an average of 54, four hundreds, and two fifties, Karun has been a very impressive player in the 2024–25 domestic season. He is now the top run-getter in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy and the fourth-highest run-maker in the Ranji Trophy. His prolific play helped Vidarbha win their third Ranji trophy by defeating Kerala in the final.
"There is enough time to announce the squad, mostly ahead of the knockouts or just after those matches. You will then get a clear picture as to which players are available by then," a source close to the development told PTI.
Despite his lackluster performances and two Test series losses to Australia and New Zealand, Rohit Sharma is anticipated to captain the Indian senior side in England. Star pacer Jasprit Bumrah, who is currently recuperating from a back injury he suffered during the tour to Australia, will also be monitored by India. Bumrah will not be available for the Mumbai Indians' opening IPL 2025 games.
