The International Cricket Council (ICC) on Tuesday released the pitch ratings for the ICC Men's T20 World Cup 2024. The World Cup was hosted by West Indies and the USA. The ICC gave poor ratings to three pitches where two pitches are from the USA and one is from the WIndies.
The Nassau County Cricket Stadium in New York hosted eight group-stage matches. The pitch of this stadium has come under scrutiny. The ICC has described the pitches for the Sri Lanka vs South Africa and India vs Ireland matches as 'unsatisfactory'. Both the matches were played for the first time on this pitch. Every team who played at this venue was seen struggling. Sri Lanka was bowled out for 77 against South Africa while Ireland managed to score only 96 runs against India.
The India-Pakistan pitch got a good rating

The highest score on the pitch during the tournament was 137-7, which Canada made against Ireland. The problems at the Nassau County Stadium were not just limited to these two matches. The ground used drop-in pitches that caused the ball to bounce at random. This led to injuries to players, including a hand injury to Indian captain Rohit Sharma during the India-Ireland match. Despite these challenges, the much-anticipated India-Pakistan match also took place on June 9, in which Pakistan were bowled out for 119 and India won narrowly by 113-7. However, this pitch and outfield have received good ratings.
The pitch for the India-Pakistan match at the 2024 T20 World Cup in New York narrowly escaped an "unsatisfactory" rating, instead, the ICC rated both the pitch and outfield as "satisfactory". During the tournament, the drop-in pitches of the Nassau County Ground were closely scrutinized as their uneven bounce caused a lot of problems for the batters.
Overall, the ICC rated 31 pitches as 'satisfactory' and 18 as 'very good'. However, the poor ratings given to the Nassau County Stadium and Brian Lara Cricket Stadium have raised questions about the future of the WIndies pitch. In such a situation, it will be interesting to see how many matches are played on these grounds in the coming times.
