Assam's newly appointed captain Hritwik Dhar bowled a game-changing spell during the Vijay Merchant Trophy 2024 clash against Manipur at MPCA ground in Morena. After opting to bat, Assam scored 205 runs in the first innings where Beer Oniket Prasad was the highest run-getter scoring 52 runs followed by Sharvin Das's 41 which helped Assam to put 201 runs on board. In total Hritwik Dhar picked up seven wickets in his 10.2 overs including four maidens with an economy 1.94.
After coming to bat, Manipur failed to get a good start as Assam skipper Hritwik Dhar picked up their opener Anush on the second ball of his first over. After that Dhar got rid of Maverick Wakambam on a duck. S Thoungamba who came to bat alongside Anush clean bowled by skipper Hritwik. Soon after Thoungamba, Hritwik picked up two more wickets as Ishorchandra got out after scoring just seven runs and another batter Lucky failed to open his account soon after that Moksod Uddin picked up Lanchenba's wicket. Manipur batter Swabhiman who was looking set also got out by Hritwik during 27.th over.
Manipur were seven down after scoring just 55 runs. Apart from Hritwik, Assam's Nayan Ch Mahanayak got two wickets and Moksod Uddin got one. After Assam's heavy bowling lineup, Manipur got bundled out on just 56 runs. While coming to bat in the second innings, Assam batters ended day 1 scoring 23 runs without losing a wicket.
The ongoing Vijay Merchant Trophy is taking place in Madhya Pradesh. The tournament will take place across four venues. Captain Roop Singh Stadium, Shrimant Madhavrao Scindia Cricket Stadium in Shankarpur, Scindia School Ground, and MPCA Ground in Morena. The tournament will have five rounds and run until December 30. A total of 15 matches will take place during the event.
