Seasoned Indian pacer Mohit Sharma played a vital role in helping the Gujarat Titans (GT) secure an emphatic victory over the Punjab Kings (PBKS) during their Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023 encounter in Mohali on Thursday, April 13. He recorded figures of 2/18 in the middle overs to restrict Punjab to 154 runs which they chased down in 19.5 overs.
Speaking during the post-match interview, Mohit attributed his success to a clear role defined by the team's coach and captain, which allowed him to execute his plans effectively. "I was prepared from before about my role. I knew that I would most probably have to bowl after the tenth over. Credit goes to the coach and the environment created here; everyone's role is very clear," Mohit said after the match.

Despite being a senior bowler, Mohit was also a net bowler during his time away from the cash-rich league. He won the Purple Cap in 2014 when he was with the Chennai Super Kings and represented India at the World Cups in 2014 and 2015. After missing the last two IPL seasons, he was bought for his base price of Rs 50 lakh during the IPL mini-auction.
Mohit came in to bowl only in the 11th over and he made full use of his variations and accuracy to get the wickets of Jitesh Sharma in his second over before striking in his final over, getting the big wicket scalp of Sam Curran.
He also lauded the support he received from his captain, Hardik Pandya. "I thought that it could play on the slower side. I thought I could use some variations. I was fortunate that Hardik was there, so I could discuss with him whenever I wanted to try something," he said.
"You just have to go back and do the same thing. You go to train and keep giving your best," the veteran bowler added.
