Justin Langer in race to replace Brendon McCullum as England Test coach

In the series of expected events, England are carrying out the hunt for a new Test coach after Brendon McCullum's departure from the red-ball setup, which started on a promising note but came to an end after a series of disappointing outcomes. The vacancy has quickly become one of the most sought-after jobs in international cricket, with a number of experienced former coaches emerging as potential candidates.

McCullum's departure comes after a decline in England's red-ball fortunes. A heavy 4-1 Ashes loss in Australia was followed by eight losses in their next 12 Test games, prompting the England and Wales Cricket to go for a major overhaul in the team management.

Justin Langer to become next England Test coach?

Surprisingly, Justin Langer has emerged as one of the potential candidates to take over the coaching duties of England's Test side. Langer, who had a good amount of experience in the coaching arena, as he worked with the Australian cricket team and franchises like Lucknow Super Giants in the IPL.

On the other hand, former England skipper Andrew Flintoff has also emerged as a name to watch. Flintoff has been working closely with the England Lions and has been a part of the senior men's white-ball coaching setup. His close relations with England's managing director Rob Key could play a big role in his favor if ECB goes with an in-house appointment.

Stephen Fleming also in the race

According to a report by Daily Mail, Stephen Fleming, who recently parted ways with Chennai Super Kings (CSK) after a long association of 18 years, has been among the shortlisted candidates. If Fleming gets the England Test coaching role, it will be his first role in International cricket.

Notably, Fleming is considered to be the leading choice among all the candidates, having guided CSK to five IPL titles and two Champions League T20 championships during his supreme tenure.
