Sunrisers Eastern Cape's dominance came to an end as MI Cape Town won their maiden SA20 League title. After Ryan Rickelton and Dewald Brevis' power-packed cameo helped MI set a target of 182, their star bowlers Trent Boult, Kagiso Rabada, George Linde and skipper Rashid jined forces to bowl out Aiden Markram's side for 105. In the end, it turned out to be a one-sided affair as MI Cape Town won by a huge margin of 76 runs.
Cameos get MI to fighting total
Rashid won the toss and opted to bat first. Rickelton attacked Marco Jansen in the second over hitting him for two sixes and a four. In Jansen's next over, Rickelton hit two more sixes. The opener was dismissed by Craig Overton. He contributed with 33 runs from 15 balls. In the sixth over, Richard Gleeson dismissed Reeza Hendricks for a two-ball duck. Rassie van der Dussen could not accelerate and fell to Liam Dawson in the ninth over. At the halfway stage, MI were 76/3.
In the 11th over, Linde hit Dawson for a couple of sixes before losing his wicket. Brevis played a few deliveries before ending Dawson's spell with a couple of sixes. Brevis' cameo came to an end in the 16th over. He scored 38 runs from 18 balls. In the 17th over, Markram brought back himself into the attack. He got the wicket of Connor Esterhuizen but not before conceding two sixes and a four. Esterhuizen scored 39 runs from 26 balls. Rashid could not do damage with the bat and was dismissed for a two-ball duck by Gleeson. In the penultimate over, Jansen struck again and got rid of Corbin Bosch for a two-ball duck. In the final over bowled by Gleeson, two boundaries were scored. MI posted 181/8.
Boult, Rabada derail run chase
Boult and Rabada were lethal with the new ball. David Bedingham was the first to fall to Rabada. Boult got the new ball talking and dismissed Jordan Hermann for a single-digit score. Tom Abell showed first signs of aggression when he hit Rabada for a six and two fours. After powerplay overs, Sunrisers were 34/2. Tony de Zorzi shifted gears in the eighth over with a six and two fours off Bosch. Linde was introduced into the attack and he send Abell packing. He scored 30 runs from 25 balls. Sunrisers were 67/3 at the halfway stage.
After two economical overs, Rashid got his first wicket. De Zorzi got out lbw for a 23-ball 26. The Linde dismissed skipper Markram for a single-digit score. After two boundaryless overs, Boult ruled out any chance of Sunrisers' comeback with Tristan Stubbs' wicket. He contributed with a run-a-ball 15. Rabada came back into the attack and struck twice to dismiss Jansen and Dawson in the 17th over. Bosch got his first as he gor Bosch caught at long-on. The winning moment came in the penultimate over as Gleeson played a loose shot off Rabada to get caught at covers. Sunrisers were bowled out for 105 in 18.4 overs and lost the match by 76 runs.

What Rashid said after title win
"Tonight was brilliant. We had couple of tough years. The highest points across three seasons to start off. Feel happy for this team. Brilliant effort from everyone. Throughout this season, we didn't play a selfish innings. Every one thought what the team needs. Even today, every one played their natural game. We had KG, Bosch, Boult and then George. So, happy to be part of this bowling line up," Rashid said in the post-match presentation.Â

"Amazing to be back. Missed last year due to back injury. I got a phone call ahead of the season that do you want to lead. I said yes. This is the only franchise which has won every tournament. We have won the IPL, MLC, the ILT20 and now the SA20," he added.

Boult was named player of the match as he conceded just nine runs and claimed a couple of wickets. Jansen who took 19 wickets in the season was named 'player of the tournament'.
