India star batter Shreyas Iyer opened up for the first time on losing his Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) central contract. He was last featured in the first two Test matches against England which was played in February 2024. The 29-year-old batter reckoned that he lost the contract due to lack of communication and some decisions that didn't go in his favor.

Iyer recently featured in Indian Premier League (IPL) for Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) where he led his franchise for the third title beating Sunrisers Hyderabad in the final at M.A. Chidambaram (Chepauk) Stadium in Chennnai.

"I had a tremendous World Cup. I wanted to take a break after that, work on my body & build my strength around certain areas - due to lack of communication, there were some decisions that didn’t go in my favour," said Iyer.

"At the end of the day the bat is always going to be in my hand and it’s up to me to perform and win trophies. I knew that once I win the Ranji Trophy and the IPL, that will be an apt answer to whatever happened in the past. Thankfully, everything fell in the right place. We have a lot more trophies to win in the future," he added.

Iyar was the part of India squad in the ODI World Cup 2023 where he finished his campaign as the third-highest run getter for India, scoring an impressive 530 runs with the help of two centuries and three half-centuries where India ended their campaign as the runners up losing against Australia at Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad.
