Former South African all-rounder Lance Klusener has said that he would be interesting in coaching the Indian cricket team sometime in future. The current Afghanistan head coach’s contract expires in December 2020 whereas current Indian head coach Ravi Shastri’s tenure ends right after the upcoming T20 World Cup in UAE.

“Who wouldn’t like to put in his hat for the best cricket team in the world? That would be obviously something huge and we’ve had South Africans that’s been extremely successful with the Indian team, likes of Gary Kirsten and his partner Paddy Upton,” Klusener told cricketcountry.com.

Shastri has already made it clear that he will not be extending his contract. On the other hand, Klusener has a “soft spot” for the ‘underdog’ Afghanistan cricket team.

”My focus is on Afghanistan, my contract’s also coming up in December. I’ve got a soft spot for the people of Afghanistan and maybe there’s an option to continue with them,” he added.

Afghanistan will begin their T20 World Cup campaign on October 25 at Sharjah Cricket Stadium against one of the teams who qualify in the round one of the event. Afghanistan have been placed in Group 2 along with India, Pakistan, New Zealand and two other qualifying teams.

Klusener believes that his team is very much prepared for the mega event. The Afghanistan Cricket Board (ACB) made a few changes in their squad on October 10. Sharafuddin Ashraf and Dawlat Zadran have been shifted to travelling reserves whereas Farid Ahmad Malik has been promoted to the 15-man squad.
