Five-time Indian Premier League (IPL) champions, Mumbai Indians (MI) on September 16 (Friday) appointed Former South African cricketer and current coach Mark Boucher as their head coach. Boucher, who is currently the boss of the South African national team, will vacate the post after the T20 World Cup in Australia and will be in Mumbai Indians' dugout from IPL 2023.
The former wicketkeeper-batter had a glittering career with the South African national team and after retirement, the 45-year-old has enjoyed immense success as a coach.
"It is an honor and privilege to be appointed as Head Coach of MI. Their history and achievements as a franchise clearly put them up there as one of the most successful sporting franchises in all of world sport. I look forward to the challenge and respect the need for results. It's a strong unit with great leadership and players. I look forward to adding value to this dynamic unit," said Boucher in an official media release issued by Mumbai Indians.
He was appointed as the head coach of South Africa in 2019 and since taking the job, he led the national side to 11 Tests wins, 12 ODI victories and 23 T20I wins.

Boucher will succeed Mahela Jayawardene at MI. Sri Lankan tactician was appointed as the Global Head of Performance by the franchise earlier in the week while Zaheer Khan was appointed as the Global Head of Cricket Development. The former Indian pacer was the Director of Cricket Operations earlier.
