Babar Azam-led side received good news from PCB as they reached India for ODI World Cup 2023.

The Pakistan Cricket Board and Babar Azam-led side have reached a historic agreement on central contracts. PCB will replace its standard 12-month contract with three-year contracts which will see a significant increase in the players' earnings in addition to a fixed share of revenue the board earns from the International Cricket Council (ICC).

During the tussle, the players represented the nation without getting remunerations. Earlier, the players were offered an option to continue with the existing payment structure before a new deal was worked out. The offer was turned down by the players.

After playing the Test series in Sri Lanka, the ODI series against Afghanistan, and Asia Cup without active contracts, it seemed like they would play the World Cup in the same state as well. However, as per the new deal, the board has said that there will be an increment of match fees by 50 per cent in Tests, 25 per cent in ODIs and 12.5 per cent in T20Is.

The contracted players will also receive a share from the annual sum PCB of USD 33-34 million is expected to get from their share of revenues via media rights of ICC events.

The players have been divided into four categories. A category players including skipper Babar Azam, Mohammad Rizwan and Shaheen Afridi will receive INR 13 lakh approximately as monthly salary. They will allowed to play in one T20 foreign league per year. On the other hand, players from other categories can participate in two foreign T20 leagues per year.

"We believe that our players are the true assets of Pakistan cricket, and it is our utmost priority to ensure their well-being and provide them with the best possible services," PCB chairman Zaka Ashraf said. "As we move forward, the entire nation stands behind these players to do well in the upcoming ICC Men's World Cup. We have faith in their abilities, and we are confident that they will make the nation proud with their outstanding performances.

Babar was happy with the agreement as he said, "I am extremely happy and satisfied that we have reached an agreement with the PCB. It has been a lengthy and, at times, challenging negotiation process, but I believe we have reached a fair and beneficial agreement for both parties."
