Former Australia Test cricketer who was in IPL 2021 commentary panel accused of assaulting police officer

Former Australian cricketer Michael Slater has reportedly been charged with assaulting a police officer which led to his arrest on March 28 midnight (Friday).

Former Australian cricketer Michael Slater has reportedly been charged with assaulting a police officer which led to his arrest on March 28 midnight (Friday). According to a police spokesperson, the office was left with a cut to the hand. 
 

The police was responding to an alleged domestic violence and medical incident at the Noosa Heads, Queensland. Slater will appear at Noosa Magistrates Court on Mary 2.
 

“The man is expected to appear before Noosa Magistrates Court on May 2," police told AAP in a statement. “As the matter is domestic violence and medical in nature, for privacy reasons no further information will be provided."
 

This is not the first time Slater has been in the news for wrong seasons. Last year, Slater was charged with domestic violence and was sentenced to a two-year jail term for assault, breaching a restraining order against a woman.
 

However, the charges were dismissed on mental health grounds. Repotedly, he was diagnosed with bipolar disorder by a psychologist and two doctors as he was dealing with a 'significant mental impairment'.
 

Earlier, he made headlines for criticising Australian government over strict Covid protocols. The outburst was a result of the government banning flights arriving from India. He was stuck in Madlives after leaving IPL commentary panel midway due to Covid outbreak in India.
 

The New South Wales-born batter made his Test debut in 1993. He was not a regular in the ODI format and was last seen in the yellow jersey in 1997. He got a longer run in the Test format. The right-handed batter scored 5,312 runs from 131 innings at an average of 42.83 including 14 centuries and 21 half-centuries. 
 

After getting dropped from the Australian squad in 2011, he continued to play first-class cricket till 2023. The 53-year-old has 14,912 runs from 384 first-class innings at an average of 40.85 including 36 centuries and 69 half-centuries.
