Former Pakistan captain Mohammad Yousuf resigned as selector of Pakistan men’s cricket team on September 29. Yousuf resigned due to personal reasons ahead of home Test series against England.
“I announce my resignation as a selector for the Pakistan cricket team due to personal reasons. Serving this incredible team has been a profound privilege, and I am proud to have contributed to the growth and success of Pakistan Cricket,” the 50-year-old wrote on X.
“I have immense faith in the talent and spirit of our players, and Wish our team all the best as they continue to strive for greatness,” he added.
Yousuf was retained in Pakistan's selection committee despite their disappointing run in ICC Men's T20 World Cup 2024. Apart from Yousuf, Asad Shafiq was retained as selector while former players Wahab Riaz and Abdul Razzaq were sacked by PCB chief Mohsin Naqvi. He was in the committee which selected the squad for two-Test series against Bangladesh which Pakistan lost under the captaincy of Shan Masood at home. Earlier this month, the committee also announced the squad for first Test against England on October 7.
As per a report by the PTI, Yousuf was disappointed with the harsh criticism he faced from people at the PCB and his junior and former teammates.
“He was restless at being ridiculed in the media and on social media regularly and felt it would be best to just focus on coaching,” the source said.
Earlier, Yousuf had worked as a batting coach of the senior side. Also, he was the head coach of Pakistan Under-19 team for two years.
