Next 3 finals of WTC to be held in England

England have been host to the first 3 finals of WTC

The International Cricket Council (ICC) confirmed England as the host of the next three finals of the World Test Championship (WTC) on Sunday. This decision was made during the global body's meeting that recently got concluded in Singapore. The next three WTC finals are set to be held in 2027, 2029 and 2031 following the completion of 2-year cycles.

Notably, England have also hosted the first three finals of WTC after the tournament began in 2019. The 2021 final between India and New Zealand took place in Southampton while the 2023 final between India and Australia was played at the Oval in London and finally, the 2025 final between South Africa and Australia was held at Lord's.

ICC have confirmed England as the host of next 3 WTC finals

"The England and Wales Cricket Board have been awarded hosting rights for the next three World Test Championship Finals. The first three editions of the WTC Final were held at different venues in England, with Lord's hosting the most recent final between South Africa and Australia last month," ICC said in a release.

One of the main reasons why England has been chosen as the host of all the WTC finals so far contested is because no weather intervention is expected to happen in the country in June, the month when the final of the tournament takes place.

"We are absolutely delighted that England and Wales has been chosen to host the next three ICC World Test Championship Finals," Richard Gould, ECB CEO, said.

"It's a testament to the passion that fans in this country have for this treasured format of the game and the willingness of supporters from around the world to travel here for these games. Hosting these finals is a privilege, and we look forward to working with the ICC to build on the success of the previous editions," he added.

When it comes to India, though the BCCI must have been interested in hosting at least one final of the WTC, Test cricket isn't anywhere near the most popular format in the country and if the Men in Blue fail to make it to the final, then majority of the seats in the venue may even go on to be empty.
