The Indian cricket team met players from the Manchester United football club ahead of their fourth Test of the ongoing series against England which is set to commence from July 23 at Old Trafford. It was quite a surprising meet-up and fans of both the teams were left quite astonished with it.
India captain Shubman Gill was among the Indian players who were very excited to meet footballers from arguably the most successful club in England. Players from the two teams also exchanged jerseys as the Indian team was seen sporting Manchester United's jerseys and vice-versa.
In a video posted by BCCI on X, Gill expressed his excitement of meeting top players from another sport.and can also be seen having a conversation with Manchester United captain Bruno Fernandes.
"Very exciting to be able to meet top athletes in the world from another sport. To get to know their stories is very inspiring. How two sports, you're playing two different sports, but the mindset that you play with is most of the time very similar," Gill said in the video.
"He (Bruno) just told me that there is pressure at times but it's kind of similar when you step onto the field, you don't really think about all the things that people expect from you. It's more about you being able to enjoy your game and enjoy the sport that you love," he added.
Gambhir was seen having a conversation with Amorim
The meet-up saw Mohammed Siraj bowling a couple of deliveries to Manchester United's Harry Maguire while Rishabh Pant even gifted a signed bat to Fernandes. Further on, India head coach Gautam Gambhir also shared his thoughts on meeting the players from a top football club and also revealed about his interaction with Manchester United's manager Ruben Amorim.
"I've been here in 2014 as well. This is a completely different experience because you end up chatting with the players. You end up chatting with Ruben as well, which was a nice interaction. What his ideology is towards team sport and what my ideology is towards team sport. The basic foundation of a team sport is very similar. Where I feel that I think it's the players that adapt to what the team needs, rather than the team that adapts to a certain individual," Gambhir stated in the video.
Meanwhile, it is highly important for Gill & Co. to come out victorious in the upcoming Test in Manchester as any other result would see them lose all their chances of winning the series. On the other hand, if England manage to win at Old Trafford, then they will go on to seal the series before even playing the fifth and final match.
