In what comes as a major development pertaining to the 2023 ODI World Cup, one-time champion Pakistan will reportedly not travel to India to participate in the quadrennial competition. According to a report in ESPNCricinfo, Bangladesh is likely to host all Pakistan matches during the ODI World Cup. The discussions are ongoing "at the ICC level" to allow Pakistan matches at the quadrennial competition to be held at a neutral venue.
The General Manager of Cricket for the International Cricket Council (ICC) and former Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) CEO, Wasim Khan on March 29 (Wednesday) said that the Men In Green are likely to end up playing their ODI World Cup matches at a neutral venue.
"I don’t know if it would take place here on in a different country but a neutral venue is highly likely. I don’t think that Pakistan will play their matches in India. I think their matches will also be held at a neutral venue just like India’s Asia Cup matches," Wasim told ARY News.
The news comes after the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) and the PCB seemed to have found a common ground regarding the 2023 Asia Cup under a 'proposed hybrid model' which would see Team Indian matches being staged at a neutral venue.
The 2023 Asia Cup is scheduled to be held in September in Pakistan but India won't travel to the neighbouring country amidst political tensions between the two nations. As a result, the Men in Blue will play all their matches in the continental multinational tournament outside Pakistan. The venue for India matches is yet to be officially announced.
