An inexperienced Philippines side is struggling to even pose a challenge in the ongoing ICC Men’s T20 World Cup Qualifier A 2022. However, on February 21, they hit a new low as Oman bundled them out for a mere 36 which is the fifth-lowest total in history of T20I cricket. Also, Oman chased down the total win 103 deliveries to spare making it the second-largest win (by balls left).

After winning the toss and opting to bat first, Philippines skipper Daniel Smith got out in the fourth of his innings. Smith scored seven runs from 14 deliveries which turned out to be the top score by a batter in the Philippines’ innings. There was not a single duck in the innings. They got bundled out for 36 in 15.2 overs. Khawar Ali took four wickets whereas Kaleemullah, Fayyaz Butt and Aamir Kaleem picked up two wickets each.

Chasing the total, Oman lost their opener Kashyap Prajapati got off the second ball of the innings after scoring a boundary. Huzaifa Mohammed turned out to be the only successful bowler in the Philippines side. Khurram Nawaz looked in a hurry to finish the game as he scored 33 runs from just 12 deliveries including five fours and two sixes. On the other end, Jatinder Singh remained unbeaten for three runs.

With three consecutive losses in the tournament, Philippines are at the bottom of Group A. On the other hand, Oman moved to second place on the points table with a record win over Philippines. The group is topped by Nepal with three consecutive wins.

Before their embarrassing batting display against Oman, Philippines’ lowest T20I total was 82/8 against Nepal which was registered on February 19 against Nepal. However, this is their first T20I series after 2019. The Philippines side had faced only Papua New Guinea and Vanuatu before the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup Qualifier games. So far, they have won just one T20I game which was against Vanuatu. Philippines won a rain-curtailed game which was reduced to five overs per side.
