India's flamboyant batter Prithvi Shaw etched his name in the annals of cricket history as he cracked a spellbinding double century for Northamptonshire during the One-Day Cup match against Somerset at the County Ground in Northampton on Wednesday, August 9.
In only his third match for Northamptonshire, the star opener notched his maiden One-Day Cup century which came off in 81 balls. He then accelerated to smoke an incredible double hundred.
Shaw took just 129 balls to accomplish his double ton, which was studded with 24 boundaries and eight maximums. Shaw had previously registered a double century for Mumbai during the 2020-21 Vijay Hazare Trophy, where he scored an unbeaten 227 against Puducherry, the highest individual score in the tournament.
The 23-year-old scripted umpteen List A records riding on his dazzling double ton, marking his first in this format since his score of 165 for Mumbai in the Vijay Hazare Trophy in March 2021. Notably, in his 56 List A appearances, Shaw has accumulated over 2800 runs, boasting an average over 50 with 20 scores exceeding fifty. In his debut match for Northamptonshire against Gloucestershire last week, Shaw was hit-wicket after making 34 runs.
Prithvi became the first Indian to score a double century in the One-Day Cup as he surpassed the previous best of 174, which was held by Cheteshwar Pujara. Not just this, he also became the second Indian, following Rohit Sharma, and the fourth player overall to secure multiple List A double centuries.
