Ravichandran Ashwin went unsold at the ILT20 auction

Piyush Chawla was signed by Abhu Dhabi Knight Riders

Despite being the most prominent player present in the entire pool, Ravichandran Ashwin failed to find any bidders at the International League T20 (ILT20) auction on Wednesday. The former India cricketer had set his base price at INR 1.06 crore for the auction and it was expected that multiple franchises would go after him. However, none of them eventually ended up making a move for him.

The only Indian who was signed during the auction was Piyush Chawla and he will be seen playing for the Abu Dhabi Knight Riders. He is among the only two Indians who will be featuring in the upcoming edition of the tournament as Dinesh Karthik had been signed earlier by the Sharjah Warriorz.

Which team did Ashwin sign with in BBL?

Ashwin had recently joined the Sydney Thunder for the upcoming season of the Big Bash League (BBL). With this, he is set to become the first Indian to ever feature in the history of the Australia-based T20 league. He will be available for the BBL campaign that is set to commence from December 14.

"Thunder were crystal clear about how they'd use me and brave enough to back it. My conversations with the leadership were excellent, and we're fully aligned on my role," Ashwin was quoted as saying by cricket.com.au.

"I love how Dave Warner plays the game, and it's always better when your leader shares your mindset. I can't wait to perform for the Thunder Nation," he added.

Ashwin had announced his retirement from IPL earlier this year in August to put an end to his 16-year long journey in the tournament. The 39-year-old wrapped up his IPL career with a total of 187 wickets from 221 matches, finishing as the fifth-highest wicket-taker in the league's history. He played for a total of five different franchises in the league - Chennai Super Kings, Rising Pune Supergiants, Kings XI Punjab, Delhi Capitals and Rajasthan Royals. He achieved the most success during his time with the Chennai-based franchise and won two titles in his 8-season stint with them.

Ashwin keen on playing in foreign T20 leagues

Ashwin had expressed his desire to play in overseas T20 leagues after he announced his retirement from IPL. The Daily Telegraph had also reported that the 39-year-old is interested in featuring in the next season of The Hundred. It remains to be seen which foreign T20 leagues will Ashwin feature in next season.
