Babar Azam has resigned from white ball captaincy.

Pakistan are scheduled to play three Test match series against England.

Former Pakistan captain Rashid Latif reckoned that Babar Azam should not have accepted the white ball captaincy again after he was sacked following the team's poor outing in the ODI World Cup hosted by India in 2023. PCB reportedly sacked Babar Azam after the Men in Green failed to perform in India and appointed speedster Shaheen Shah Afridi as their new white ball captain and Shan Masood was appointed as Test skipper.

However, just after leading the one T20I series against New Zealand, Babar was reappointed as Pakistan captain citing T20 World Cup 2024. Babar-led Pakistan faced their biggest loss in the marquee event by losing their opener clash against the non-Test playing nation USA. The 2022 T20 World Cup runners-up also failed to qualify for the Super 8 of T20 World Cup 2024.

"He should not have accepted captaincy again," Latif said.

Latif also reckoned that there is a leadership crisis in Pakistan Cricket. The PCB are currently in ICU with no specialist for treatment. Pakistan recently lost a Test series against Bangladesh for the first time in the history of red-ball cricket.

"It's a leadership crisis," former Pakistan captain Rashid Latif told AFP. "Pakistan cricket is in the ICU with no specialist for treatment."

Latif said that Babar's resignation from captaincy has come very late and this will surely cost him as well as the whole team. He also highlighted that Babar Azam and the Pakistan cricket team both are currently struggling.

"Neither the team was performing nor was he scoring big," he said. "This resignation has come very late and that has not only cost him badly, but also the team."

Pakistan are currently preparing for the upcoming three-Test match series against England which is scheduled to start from October 7 and the first match will be played at Multan International Cricket Stadium in Multan.
