Pakistan's T20 World Cup-winning captain Younis Khan suggested that Babar Azam should be replaced as the captain of the national ODI and T20I teams by either Fakhar Zaman or Muhammad Rizwan. Babar announced his resignation as captain on Tuesday, citing his desire to concentrate more on his batting now that he was free of the additional duties associated with leading the team.

Adelaide Oval honoured Younis with a special presentation on Thursday. Mark Cosgrove, a former Australian cricket player and current South Australia Cricket Association high-performance coach, gave the great batter, who landed in Australia earlier this morning, an official South Australia Redbacks cap. He had played for the Redbacks in the 2008–09 season.

Younis stated that Babar would gain a lot as a cricket player when he abdicated his captaincy. From 2000 to 2017, Younis participated in 118 Tests, 265 ODIs, and 25 T20Is. He stated that Pakistan ought to give up on trying to make their 'biggest player' the captain.

"Stepping away from the captaincy will be beneficial for Babar Azam. In our culture, we often make the biggest player the captain, which I believe is a mistake. Either Mohammad Rizwan or Fakhar Zaman should be considered for the role," Younis told the reporters at Adelaide Oval.

Pakistan will play three ODIs and as many T20Is on their November tour of Australia. While wishing them luck, he also requested that Pakistan Cricket resolve their selection problems.

"I hope the Pakistan men's cricket team performs well in Australia. The current squad includes young players, and there are certainly some issues with team selection that need to be addressed," Younis said.

Younis also gave red-ball coach Jason Gillespie a lot of credit for his efforts to advance Pakistan's cricket.

"I have played cricket with Jason Gillespie; he is working hard to improve the Pakistan team. However, there needs to be better decision-making when it comes to selection," Younis added.
