Johannesburg Super Kings (JSK) captain Faf du Plessis has been ruled out of the ongoing season of SA20. He has sustained a right thumb ligament tear and will be requiring surgery in order to recover from the injury. The 41-year-old wasn't only JSK's skipper, but was also one of their most important players in the ongoing SA20 season.
Du Plessis had scored a total of 135 runs in five innings in the tournament so far. Though he wasn't able to record a 50+ score, he did play multiple important knocks. He scored 47 runs against the Durban's Super Giants, 44 runs against MI Cape Town and 39 runs against Paarl Royals.

JSK have confirmed on social media that du Plessis weill not be featuring in the remainder of SA20 and will be undergoing surgery. They also wished him a speedy recovery. They are yet to name their replacement as of present and it remains to be seen as to who will lead JSK for the remainder of the tournament.
"All our love with you, skipper. Faf du Plessis has been ruled out of the remainder of the SA20 season after suffering a right thumb ligament tear requiring surgical repair. Our best wishes are with you," JSK wrote in a post on X.
Du Plessis doubtful for PSL as well
Du Plessis had withdrawn from IPL 2026 auction after featuring for Delhi Capitals in the previous season. He had also shared his intentions to play in the Pakistan Super League (PSL) instead. However, it remains to be seen if he will be able to recover fully from the injury by the time the tournament begins.
JSK's season so far
Meanwhile, JSK have had a decent season so far in the SA20. They stand at the third position with 17 points after competing in seven games. They are currently behind the Pretoria Capitals and Sunrisers Eastern Cape, who have accumulated 20 and 19 points respectively.
