Rishabh Pant needs 3 sixes to create history in Sri Lanka Test series

In a series of expected events, Rishabh Pant will retain his place in the playing XI for the first Test match against Sri Lanka, beginning at the Galle International Cricket Stadium on August 15. The assignment will mark India's fourth series of the 2025-27 World Test Championship cycle, and Pant will have a chance to achieve a big milestone.

Rishabh Pant eyes big feat

Pant, who played his first Test in 2018 against England at Trent Bridge in Nottingham in August 2018. Since then, the star left-handed batter has cemented himself as one of the best attacking players in the format, hitting 97 sixes across 50 Test appearances. Currently, he holds the record for the most number of sixes by an Indian in Test cricket.

The Sri Lanka series could see Pant add another major record to his name. With 97 Test sixes under his belt, the left-handed opener would look to hit three more to become the first Indian batter to breach the landmark of 100 sixes in the longest format.

So far, only three batters have manages to cross the 100-six mark in the history of Test cricket, with Adam Gilchrist, Brendon McCullum and Ben Stokes forming the elite club.

Stokes sits at the top of the charts with 138 sixes from 122 Tests during his career between 2013 and 2026. McCullum grabbed the second place with the help of 107 maximums in 101 appearances. Gilchrist, meanwhile, became the first cricketer to achieve the feat and ended his Test career with exactly 100 sixes from 96 games.

Pant is also on the verge of adding another record in WTC to his name. Currently, Pant is the highest-scoring wicketkeeper-batter in the competition's history, the Indian batter has accumulated 2,780 runs in 40 games.

If Pant manages to amass 220 runs in the two Tests against Sri Lanka, then he will become the first wicketkeeper-batter to breach the 3,000 run mark in WTC.
