Sania Mirza's family has recently addressed the news of her ex-husband, former Pakistan cricketer Shoaib Malik's third marriage. Malik, on January 20, announced his marriage to Pakistani TV actress Sana Javed, amid ongoing speculation about his separation from Sania. In response, Sania's representatives released a statement on January 21 confirming that the couple had been divorced for a few months, urging fans to refrain from speculation. The duo, who tied the knot in 2010, are parents to a son, Ihzaan Mirza Malik, born in October 2018.
"Sania has always kept her personal life away from the public eye. However, today the need has arisen for her to share that Shoaib and she have been divorced for a few months now. She wishes Shoaib well for his new journey ahead! At this sensitive period of her life, we would like to request all fans and well- wishers to refrain from indulging in any speculation and to respect her need for privacy," the statement read.
Malik and his new bride, Sana Javed, took to social media on Saturday to share images from their wedding ceremony. Sana also updated her Instagram profile name to Sana Shoaib Malik, affirming their marriage.
Despite the divorce, Malik and Sania shared some memorable moments last year, including celebrating their son's 5th birthday in Dubai. Additionally, Malik had written a touching note to Sania, praising her illustrious career, after she played her final Grand Slam match at the Australian Open. The sports stars even co-hosted a talk show together in the UAE.
On the professional front, Shoaib Malik was seen in action on Saturday, playing for Fortune Barishal against Rangpur Riders in the Bangladesh Premier League 2024 in Dhaka.
