Shahzaib Khan breaks Pakistan's all-time Under-19 record with 159-run knock against India in ACC U19 Asia Cup 2024

Young opener Shahzaib Khan on November 30 scripted history at Dubai International Cricket Stadium, Dubai against India in ACC Under-19 Asia Cup 2024 with a 159-run knock. Shahzaib registered the highest score for a Pakistan batter at the Under-19 level in One-Day format. It is also the highest score for a batter against India's Under-19 side in the white-ball format. 

The previous best belonged to Shamyl Hussain who scored 150 runs from 109 balls against Sri Lanka in Karachi in 2023. The previous best against India belonged to a Pakistan batter as well. Sami Aslam scored 134 against India in 2012 in Kuala Lumpur.

Pakistan post fighting total 

Shahzaib scored 159 runs from 147 balls. His knock featured five fours and 10 sixes. Opening the innings alongside Usman Khan, he negotiated well against the new ball when it was swinging. He showed first signs of naked aggression against spinner Mohamed Enaan with two sixes in the 15th over. In the 22nd over, he reached his fifty from 67 balls. 

He accelerated in the middle overs. Meanwhile, Ayush Mhatre got rid of Usman who scored 60 runs from 94 balls. They shared a 160-run opening partnership. In his next over, Mhatre got rid of Haroon Arshad. Shahzaib reached his century from 107 balls in the 37th over.

In the 43rd over, he smashed three sixes in an over off Hardik Raj. Samarth Nagaraj struck twice in the 44th over. In the 48th over, he reached 150 from 142 balls. His knock came to an end in the final over of the innings. He went for an aerial shot against Nagaraj but got caught by Hardik. His marathon knock helped Pakistan post 281/7 on the board.

Shahzaib breaks another record for Pakistan

The 10 sixes hit by Shahzaib are the most for Pakistan at Under-19 level. Shahzaib is one of the prominent prospects for future. He has a hundred against Afghanistan in World Cup. He has a hundred each against Bangladesh and UAE as well. Kamran Ghulam and Shamyl held the previous record with seven sixes each against England and Sri Lanka respectively.
