Shreyas Iyer speaks on Rohit Sharma's famous 'Ye-Woh'.He reveals how team understands it

Shreyas Iyer revealed how the dressing room understands the terms and slang used by skipper Rohit Sharma during conversations. The captain’s tendency to be forgetful is a well-known trait among cricket fans, often evident when he skips words during press conferences or public events. On August 21, at the CEAT Cricket Awards in Mumbai, Shreyas Iyer discussed how the team handled this aspect of Rohit’s personality. Iyer was asked about managing Rohit’s absent-mindedness in the dressing room. He acknowledged that it has never been a problem because the team members are well-acquainted with Rohit’s unique way of speaking.

Despite his frequent use of vague terms like 'yeh', 'woh', 'isko', and 'usko' the players have become adept at understanding the underlying meaning of his words. This level of familiarity and camaraderie among the squad ensures that Rohit’s forgetfulness does not disrupt their teamwork or communication.

"These are like fill-in-the-blanks for us. We just visualise whom he can refer to at that time and we understand his feelings. We have been playing together for so many years. And what he is trying to say is not that he keeps beating around the bush. We know what exactly he means," said Iyer during the cricket award show.

“There is a simple story behind it. I keep asking them to be themselves on the field. For that, first I need to be myself. And that’s how I am,” said the former Mumbai Indian skipper. Rohit’s reply was greeted was applause and praises among the people in the ceremony.

Shreyas Iyer was also honoured at the ceremony along with other cricketers for their worthy contributions.  He received a memento in recognition of the display of his “Outstanding Leadership” in the last Indian Premier League (IPL) season.
