Smriti Mandhana is on the cusp of shattering Shubman Gill's record

Mandhana has been in great form against Sri Lanka

2025 has turned out to be a terrific year for Smriti Mandhana. She not only played a key role in India's ODI World Cup triumph, but also broke a  ton of record and achieved several milestones. The 29-year-old recently crossed the 10,000-run mark in international cricket with a fiery knock of 80 in the fourth T20I of the ongoing five-match series against Sri Lanka.

Mandhana is now on the brink of breaking a massive record that is currently held by Shubman Gill. She will have the chance of claiming the record in the fifth and final T20I against Sri Lanka that will be held on December 30. The left-hand batter currently has 1703 runs under her name in 2025 and is just 62 runs away from surpassing Gill's tally of 1764 runs in the calendar year.

Mandhana among the elite

Mandhana became just the second Indian and fourth women's cricketer overall to surpass the 10,000-run mark in international cricket. She currently has 10,053 runs under her belt and reached the milestone with a superb knock of 80 against Sri Lanka in the fourth T20I. The other three women players to reach the milestone are India's Mithali Raj, New Zealand's Suzie Bates and England's Charlotte Edwards.

Though Mandhana didn't have a great start to the series against Sri Lanka and recorded scores of 25,14 and 1 in the first three games resp;ectively, she stepped up big time in the fourth game. It was her knock of 80 that carried the Women in Blue to a massive total of 221/2 in 20 overs. The hosts went on to restrict Sri Lanka to 191/6 in 20 overs and won the match by 30 runs.

India's dominance against Sri Lanka

The victory saw India take a 4-0 lead in the series. Though they have  already won the assignment, they will be looking to end the year on a positive note. If Harmanpreet Kaur & Co. do go on to win the penultimate game, then it will be just the third time in history that they win a series by 5-0. They had previously defeated West Indies and Bangladesh by the same scoreline in 2019 and 2024 respectively.
