India's 10-wicket defeat to England in the T20 World Cup 2022 semifinal had a huge impact. There were several changes made but a majority of players were able to make a comeback to the T20I side, barring two -- KL Rahul and Bhuvneshwar Kumar. The pacer went for 25 runs in two overs at the Adelaide Oval. His last T20I appearance was against New Zealand in the same year. Since then, he has been absent from India’s squads across formats. Despite impressive performances in Royal Challengers Bengaluru’s (RCB) maiden Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025, the veteran pacer has fallen off the radar of selectors but he is not ready to hang his boots yet.
“I am enjoying my bowling. I haven't thought about retirement yet. As long as I am fit, I will keep playing, the rest is the job of the selectors,” Bhuvneshwar said.
Bhuvneshwar is currently playing in the Uttar Pradesh Premier League 2025. In the ongoing season, he has taken nine wickets from eight games at an average of 20.67, and economy rate of 6.76 runs per over. He intends to play in the the upcoming domestic season across formats for Uttar Pradesh and leave the rest to selectors whether he gets to make international comeback.
“The selectors will answer this question. My job is to give my 100 percent on the field and I am giving it. After the UP League, if I get a chance to play for the state's senior teams in Mushtaq Ali, Ranji or one-day format, I will try to give my best there too. As a disciplined bowler, my focus is on my fitness and line-length. No matter how well you perform, sometimes luck does not favour you,” the 35-year-old said.
Bhuvneshwar will be seen in action again when Lucknow Falcons go up against Gaur Gorakhapur Lions in the Eliminator clash on September 3.
Bhuvneshwar’s tally of wickets for RCB in IPL 2025
In IPL 2025, the 35-year-old claimed 17 wickets from 14 games at an average of 28.41 and economy rate of 9.28 runs per over. He was roped in for Rs 10.75 crore by RCB in the mega auction.
