One of the most bizarre run outs in recent cricket history took place in Dambulla during the opening game of tri-series on June 9. India A’s Priyansh Arya was going all guns blazing when a mix-up with Ruturaj Gaikwad and Sri Lanka A wicketkeeper Niroshan Dickwella’s left shoe ended his stay at the crease.

The run out took place in the 13th over of India A's innings. Gaikwad had hit Ravindu Fernando for a six off the previous ball. Then, he pushed the ball towards point. The fielder was in the deep and the second run was available. But, Arya was ball-watching while Gaikwad was almost at the other end. However, when Dickwella was collecting the throw, it stopped Arya’s bat from sliding inside the crease. At the same time, Gaikwad made his ground and escaped the run out. Dickwella threw the ball at the other end and Ravindu took off the bails.

After a few replays, the third umpire Hemantha Boteju adjudged Arya out. He was dismissed for a run-a-ball 32, including four fours and a six. India A were 69/3 from 13 overs after Arya's wicket. Earlier, they lost Vaibhav Sooryavanshi and Prabhsimran Singh's wickets for 16 runs.
Gaikwad makes second chance count with a ton
While Arya couldn’t convert a good start into big score, Gaikwad made the most of early reprieve. He went on to score his 21st List A century, helping India A recover from the early blows. Gaikwad scored 101 runs from 114 balls, featuring six fours and three sixes. The CSK captain wasn’t part of the initial squad. He was picked as an injured Riyan Parag’s replacement.
Varma’s slow fifty, India A finish well
Gaikwad shared a 150-run partnership for the fourth wicket with skipper Tilak Varma. The captain played too many dot balls in a bid to prevent a collapse. He faced 97 deliveries to score 60 balls. At the coin toss, he had already said that it looks like a surfaced where 270 will be a good score. Camoes from Ayush Badoni (18-ball 24) and Suryansh Shedge (14-ball 26 not out) took India A to 277/6 against Sahan Arachchige-led Sri Lanka A.
