Australia Women produced a brilliant all-round performance to beat West Indies Women by 103 runs in the first ODI, taking a 1-0 lead in the series, despite a fighting century from Stafanie Taylor.
Australia's batting
After opting to bat, Australia posted a strong total of 341 in just under 50 overs. Phoebe Litchfield led the charge with a fluent 77 off 72 balls, while Georgia Voll gave the innings a solid start, scoring 42, as the pair put together a 75-run opening stand.
The middle overs saw contributions from Ellyse Perry with 44 and captain Sophie Molineux with 47. A crucial 91-run partnership between Molineux and Nicola Carey, who made 49, steadied the innings after a slight wobble. The innings was capped off by Georgia Wareham’s quick 42, helping Australia cross the 300-run mark comfortably. For the West Indies, Afy Fletcher took three wickets but was expensive in her spell.

West Indies' chase
Chasing a huge target, West Indies struggled from the start, losing key wickets including captain Hayley Matthews, and couldn’t keep up with the required run rate. Taylor held the innings together, scoring an unbeaten 105 off 129 ballswhich was her first ODI century since 2021, but she got very little support from the rest of the lineup.

Chinelle Henry was the only other batter to put up some resistance, adding 38 runs and sharing a 73-run stand with Taylor for the fourth wicket. But the chase never really looked threatening.
Australia’s bowlers controlled the game well. Kim Garth took three crucial wickets for 37 runs, while Ashleigh Gardner grabbed two more. Sharp fielding, including a run-out of Deandra Dottin, further dented the home side’s chances.
West Indies eventually finished on 238/8 after their 50 overs, falling well short as Australia secured a dominant victory to take the lead in the series.
