Steve Smith and Mitchell Starc set to play this T20 league after leading Australia to victory in the Ashes

Smith and Starc have both been made available for the Big Bash League and will be featuring for the Sydney Sixers in the latter stages of the tournament

Both Smith and Starc will play for the Sydney Sixers

Both Steve Smith and Mitchell Starc will soon be in action in the Big Bash League (BBL) where they will feature for the Sydney Sixers. With most of Australia's Test squad done with international duty for a while, many have confirmed their availability for the T20 league. The likes of Usman Khawaja, Marnus Labuschagne, Alex CareyMichael NeserJhye Richardson, Brendan Doggett, Todd Murphy, Jake Weatherald, Beau Webster and Josh Inglis are all available to feature for their respective teams.

Multiple players to join the Sixers

Starc is set to play in the BBL for the first time in 11 years and is expected to participated in the match against Sydney Thunder on January 16 and  Brisbane Heat on January 18. He is also likely to be available for the playoffs if the Sixers do end up qualifying. Murphy will also be joining the squad soon and will be available to play. Sixers have already added Josh Hazlewood to their squad, but he is unlikely to play as he is still recovering from the achilles injury that he had sustained while recovering from a hamstring issue during the Ashes.

Smith will be available for the Sixers' final three matches of the league stage and is expected to feature in the side's upcoming clash against the Hobart Hurricanes on January 11. The 36-year-old has a superb record when it comes to the BBL and has scored a total of 1199 runs in 34 matches so far. He has registered three centuries and eight half-centuries in the tournament and will be looking to increasee that tally in the coming games.

Meanwhile, the likes of Khawaja, Labuschagne and Neser are all expected to be in action for the Brisbane Heat soon. On the other hand, both Inglis and Richardson are also likely to feature in the upcoming matches of Perth Scorchers while Carey is available to play for the Adelaide Strikers. Both Weatherald and Webster will be available for the Hurricanes while Doggett is likely to play for Sydney Thunder.

Some players will miss the tournament

On the other hand, there are some Australian players, who have opted out of the BBL. This includes the likes of Travis Head,Scott Boland and Cameron Green. While Head has already started preparing for the 2026 T20 World Cup, both Boland and Green have decided to take breaks after the gruelling Ashes series.
