Sunrisers Leeds delete victory song video after fan backlash.

Rebranding debate intensifies as attendances decline at The Hundred.

In a turn of unusual events, Sunrisers Leeds have removed a social media clip featuring their men's team's new victory song after it attracted massive heat from the fanbase. The clip was deleted after receiving strong criticism that came after the side's victory over Southern Brave at Headingley last week.

Why are Sunrisers Leeds receiving criticism?

The now-deleted video had Sunrisers Leeds players and support staff performing a rewritten version of 'Marching On Together,' the famous theme song which is associated with Leeds United and Leeds Rhinos, while following the lyrics from Laminated cue cards.

Posted on social media with the caption "traditions" along with an orange heart emoji, the post quickly went viral across the platform and attracted criticism, as several fans raised questions on the use of the word given that the rebranded franchise has played only two games so far.

Although the original post has been removed, the clip continues to make rounds after being downloaded and re-uploaded by various social media handles. The clip shows the players appearing uncomfortable as they try to sing the chants.

Decline in average attendance

Sunrisers Leeds clinched a close five-run win over Southern Brave in a thrilling Hundred game at Headingley. However, the game managed to draw only 11,628 spectators, lower than the average attendance of 14,492 for men's Hundred games at the venue during the last season.

Disconnect between fans and Sunrisers Leeds?

The criticism has once again showcased the gap between the new Indian ownership groups behind the rebranded franchise and their local fanbase. Despite having a greater investment in marquee players, attendances at The Hundred have seen a decline this season, with many supporters attributing the decline, at least in part, to the rebranding operation.
