Sourav Ganguly demands strict punishment for the culprits of the Kolkata Rape case.

The Indian cricket team's T20I captain Suryakumar Yadav has delivered a strong and clear message to society amid the ongoing protests in Kolkata over the rape and murder of a postgraduate trainee doctor. The ace batter has urged family members to educate the male members. Suryakumar is the first active Indian cricketer to come out and openly speak against the issue. The first line of the post shared on his Instagram story read 'Protect your daughter', However, it was scratched off and below it was written 'Educate your son'. The next few lines include brothers, fathers, husbands, men, and friends which gives a strong message that it is high time society starts teaching the men around them.

The horrifying crime that was committed at the RG Kar Medical College and Hospital in Kolkata has shocked the nation. On August 9, the victim's body was discovered in a hospital seminar room. The following day, a civic volunteer was detained for alleged involvement in the crime. On Sunday, agitated junior doctors at state-run hospitals continued their cease-work to demand justice, causing healthcare services across West Bengal to remain affected for the tenth day in a row.

The junior doctors have been asking for the victim's post-mortem examination report to be made public and that the perpetrators be punished as soon as possible. The case was transferred from the Kolkata Police to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), which began its investigation on August 14. This was ordered by the Calcutta High Court on August 13.

Sourav Ganguly demands strict punishment

Former Indian cricketer and ex-BCCI president Sourav Ganguly called it shameful and demanded that once the investigation is done, strict punishment should be given. He demanded a punishment so strict that no one else ever in their life try to commit a crime like this again in life.

"I told that last Sunday, I don’t know how it was construed or was interpreted. I have said it earlier also, it’s a terrible thing. Now CBI, police are investigating the matter. It’s very shameful what has happened. I hope that the CBI, who are investigating the matter, once they find the culprit strict punishment should be given. The punishment should be such that no one dares to commit such a crime again in their life. That is important. Punishment has to be severe," Sourav Ganguly was quoted as saying by PTI.
