Afghanistan cricketers Gulbadin Naib and Mohammad Nabi paid their condolences to the people who lost their lives during Pakistan's airstrike attack on Friday. Pakistan reportedly bombed the Urgun district where eight were killed alongwith local cricketers Kabeer, Sibghatullah, and Haroon. Seven more people were reportedly injured by the attack.
Following this, the Afghanistan Cricket Board (ACB) pulled out from the upcoming tri-series where they were supposed to compete against Pakistan and Sri Lanka. Naib took to social media and labelled Pakistan's attack as "cowardly" and added that they will not be able to break the Afghan spirit.
"We are deeply saddened by the cowardly military attack in Argun, Paktika, that martyred innocent civilians and fellow cricketers. This brutal act by the Pakistani army is an assault on our people, pride, and independence, but it will never break the Afghan spirit," Naib wrote on X.
Nabi's reaction to the attack
On the other hand, veteran Afghanistan cricketer Mohammad Nabi was deeply hurt by the attack and paid his condolences to the lives that were lost. He further highlighted that the whole country is saddened by the events in Paktika.
"It was very painful for me to hear the news of those heroic players of Argon district Paktika, who were attacked by Pakistani military regime after a friendly match of cricket. This incident is a big grief not only for Paktika, but for the entire Afghan cricket family and nation. My heartfelt condolences to the families of these innocent players, my friends and the people of Paktika," Nabi wrote on Facebook.
