Former Australian opener David Warner will make his Pakistan Super League (PSL) debut at the age of 38. The Indian Premier League (IPL) 2016-winning captain will be leading Karachi Kings against Mohammad Rizwan's Multan Sultans in their campaign opener. In the pre-match press conference, a Pakistani reporter claimed that 'Indians' have trolled Warner for opting to play PSL after going unsold in the IPL 2025 mega auction. The reporter then asked for Warner's reaction to the alleged "hate" he has been on the receiving end of. The IPL legend dismissed this claims saying this is the first time he is hearing something like this.
“This is the first I've heard of it. From my perspective, I want to play cricket. There's an opportunity to come to PSL. My international calendar didn't allow me to come to PSL due to the timings. Now, I want to compete, captain the Karachi Kings, and hopefully we are able to win the trophy,” Warner said in the press conference.
Why Warner skipped the captains' day event?
Earlier, Warner missed the captains' day of the PSL. He revealed that he wanted to play an intra-squad game and assess the players. He apologised for skipping the event as well.
"My priority was the intra-squad game and coming from home, I wanted to take a look at the players playing in our team. For me, it was about getting the guys up and ready for tomorrow's game. I apologize for not being there," the left-handed batter said.
Warner's lack of white-ball experience in Pakistan
Warner has never played white-ball cricket in Pakistan. However, in 2022, he arrived in Pakistan for a three-Test series. He scored 169 runs from three innings at an average of 33.80, including two half-centuries.
Warner charged with responsibility to change Karachi Kings' fortune
Warner faces a daunting task as Karachi Kings have not been able to get past the league stage in last three season. In the previous edition, they finished fifth. In the last three seasons, they have managed to win eight out of 30 games.
