Sri Lanka A captain Sahan Arachchige once again executed his plans well against 15-year-old ultra-aggressive opener Vaibhav Sooryavanshi in the ongoing tri-series in Dambulla. Sooryavanshi got off to a good start once again but squandered it with a mistimed shot to lose his wicket, getting out to an off-spinner.

After Arachchige won the toss and opted to bowl first, Mohamed Shiraz bowled a good first over, conceding just two runs. In the second over, Chamika Gunasekara was hit for two fours and a six by Sooryavanshi. The pace did not trouble him. He did not get the strike from Prabhsimran Singh in Shiraz's second over.

Replacing Gunasekara, Arachchige introduced himself into the attack. He was hit for a boundary first ball. On the next ball, the 15-year-old took a single. On the fourth ball of the over, he got the strike. He showed a rare forward defense but that approach was short-lived. Arachchige tossed it up outside off and Sooryavanshi went for a big drive over cover. He ended up slicing it and point fielder Wanuja Sahan took an easy catch outside the 30-yard circle.
Sooryavanshi's opening partner Prabhsimran was dimissed cheaply as well. He miscued a shot off Shiraz's bowling in the seventh over and got caught for a 13-ball 11. India A lost both openers for 39 runs.
Sooryavanshi’s scores in tri-series so far
After a record-breaking run in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026 for Rajasthan Royals (RR), Sooryavanshi is yet to score a fifty in his debut One-Day series for India A.
The southpaw was dismissed by Shiraz in the series opener for a 12-ball 14 on June 9. In the next match against Afghanistan A, he scored 44 runs from just 22 balls and got out caught behind trying to play an upper cut.
Tilak makes 2 changes
Earlier, Tilak Varma made two changes to the side. Yash Thakur replaced Anshul Kamboj whereas Nishant Sindhu walked into the side for Priyansh Arya. Sri Lanka A did not make any changes to their winning combination.
