South Africa's legendary batter AB de Villiers made a sensational comeback to cricket field as he smashed a 28-ball century in the CSA League. In a charity match for Titans Legends against Bulls Legends at SuperSport Park, De Villiers hit as many as 15 sixes in his side's dominating win.
De Villiers' team featured the white-ball stars Albie Morkel and Chris Morris as well. De Villiers faced just two dot balls, did not score a single four but cleared the boundaries with ease with his 360 degree strokeplay. Coincidentally, his strike rate was of 360 as well. The video of his monstrous hits have gone viral on social media.
De Villiers' blazing century helped Titans Legends post a gigantic score of 278/7 on the board from 20 overs. In the run chase, Bulls Legends failed to put up a fight. They managed to post 125/8 in 14 overs before rain played spoilsport.
ABD to lead South Africa again
The 41-year-old is set for a comeback after handing his boots following Royal Challengers Bengaluru 's (RCB) exit from the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2021. Earlier this year, De Villiers will be leading Game Changers South Africa Champions in the second edition of the World Championship of Legends (WCL) 2025.
"Four years ago, I retired from all cricket because I just didn't feel the urge to play any more. Well, time has passed, and my young sons have started playing the game. We've been playing more and more often in the garden, and, well, it feels as though some kind of flame has been lit again," he said as quoted from a release by WCL.
"So I am heading back to the gym and the nets, and I'll be ready for WCL in July."
ABD's T20 career
De Villiers is South Africa's third-highest run-scorer in T20s (including T20Is, franchise leagues, domestic T20 cricket). In 17 years, he played 340 T20s and scored 9,424 runs from 320 innings at an average of 37.24, featuring four centuries and 69 half-centuries. His career strike rate is 150.13 and has hit 436 sixes which is most by any South African so far.
