'We can’t select a team until...': England coach Brendon McCullum demand clarity on Pakistan Test series amid venue relocation reports

England Cricket Board (ECB) head coach Brendon McCullum is seeking clarity about their upcoming Test tour of Pakistan because the reports are suggesting that some matches will likely be moved to another country. 

 

Pakistan are currently preparing for the upcoming Champions Trophy 2025 and they are currently renovating the venues for the marquee event. There are concerns about the England versus Pakistan Test series because of ongoing construction at the proposed venues for the series. Media reports indicate that the schedule for the three-Test series, starting on October 7, might be changed. England is set to play the first Test in Multan, with subsequent matches planned for Karachi and Rawalpindi. But the venue will likely change amid construction for the Champions Trophy 2024. 

 

England’s head coach, Brendon McCullum, addressed the uncertainty during a press conference at The Oval before the third Test against Sri Lanka.

“We don’t really know what’s happening in Pakistan but we can’t select a team until we know where we are going to play. It would be nice if, over the next couple of days, we found out," McCullum said as per Cricket Pakistan.

 

"Then we'll sit down and make sure we've got the right team for the right conditions and the right opposition," he further added.

There are chances that some matches will be relocated to the United Arab Emirates or Sri Lanka. Notably, England denied travelling to Pakistan earlier as well between 2005 and 2022 due to security concerns. 

 

Pakistan Cricket Team are currently in a rough patch as they recently lost a Test series against Bangladesh for the first time in the history of the longest format of the game. They failed to perform in the ODI World Cup 2023 after that they failed to perform in the T20 World Cup 2024 where they faced a defeat against the United States which is a non-Test playing nation.
