Romario Shepherd did not find a place in the ODI squad.

Cricket West Indies (CWI) have announced their squad for the three-ODI series against Sri Lanka at home commencing on June 3. Pacer Alzarri Joseph has marked his comeback after recovering from injury. Shimron Hetmyer has been recalled after missing three ODI series. The southpaw has been rewarded for his performances in T20 World Cup 2026 and CWI wants him to play in the ICC Men’s ODI World Cup 2027 as well despite a lean patch for Rajasthan Royals (RR) in the recently-concluded Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026. However, he will be available for the third and final ODI of the series.

"Following his impressive performances during the recent ICC Men's T20 World Cup, Shimron Hetmyer has been reintegrated into the West Indies ODI setup as part of CWI's strategic build-up towards the 50-Over World Cup in October and November next year,” CWI said in a statement.

Four players -- Alick Athanaze, Johann Layne, Kharry Pierre and Romario Shepherd -- who were part of the New Zealand tour have not made it to the ODI squad. Shepherd's omission may be part of the workload considering he was part of IPL 2026-winning Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) side.

Coach Sammy wants 'fearless but intelligent cricket' from WI

Shai Hope-led West Indies are currently ranked 10th in ICC ODI rankings. They would like to make it to the top eight and confirm their qualification for the ODI World Cup 2027. Otherwise, they will have to play the World Cup qualifiers.

“Sri Lanka are a disciplined and skilful ODI unit, especially in conditions that demand patience and smart cricket. For us, this series is about setting the standard, intensity in the field, clarity with the bat, and consistency with the ball. We want to play fearless but intelligent cricket and continue building the identity we believe West Indies cricket should represent.” head coach Darren Sammy said.

“In our desire to make home a fortress in ODI cricket, I want the team to win moments consistently rather than relying on individual brilliance which we have stressed for the last 18 months.”

All the three ODIs will be played at Sabina Park, Jamaica. The ODI series will conclude on June 8.
