Pakistan white ball captain Mohammad Rizwan opens up on the upcoming Champions Trophy 2025 which is scheduled to take place next year in Pakistan. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) have already denied sending team India to the neighbouring nation for the marquee event citing players' safety.
Rizwan who is currently in Australia leading the Men in Green for the ODI and T20I series said that be it Suryakumar Yadav or KL Rahul any cricketer who comes to Pakistan will be welcomed with respect. He also highlighted that the decision of the Champions Trophy is not in their hands.
"Suryakumar Yadav or KL Rahul, whoever comes to Pakistan will be welcomed with respect. However, the decision is not in our hands" said Rizwan in a clip shared by cricwick.
Pakistan have recently won an ODI series against Australia 2-1 and now Mohammad Rizwan-led side will feature in a three-match T20I series scheduled to start from November 14. On the other hand, Team India are also currently in Australia preparing for the Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25 which is scheduled to start from November 22.
India's take on Champions Trophy 2025
After BCCI decided not to travel to Pakistan for the marquee event, the International Cricket Council (ICC) has asked PCB to adopt a hybrid model with India's matches to be played in the United Arab Emirates (UAE). Sports Tak has learned that if PCB doesn't agree to a hybrid model, the tournament will be shifted to South Africa in its entirety.
Earlier, it was reported that PCB is in conversation with the Pakistan government on the next course of action.
If PCB agrees, this will not be the first time a multi-team tournament will be played in a hybrid model. PCB adopted a hybrid model for Asia Cup 2023 as well. India played their matches in Sri Lanka and ended up winning the tournament.
