India ODI and Test captain Rohit Sharma, who is currently featuring for Mumbai Indians (MI) in Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025, said that for him, representing the country is a pinnacle ahead of the upcoming five-Test match series against England.
Rohit, who announced his retirement from T20Is after guiding India to the T20 World Cup 2024 triumph, said that for him, all formats of the game are the same and equally important.
"Personally, to me representing the country was the pinnacle - I wouldn't put Test Cricket over T20 cricket or T20 Cricket over Test Cricket - For me all three formats are equally important" said Rohit in the Beyond23 Cricket Podcast
Rohit Sharma recently captained India in ICC Champions Trophy 2025 where the unbeaten Men in Blue defeated New Zealand to win the title. He will now be seen leading India in their upcoming red-ball assignment.
Rohit also hinted that India's pace duo, Jasprit Bumrah and Mohammed Shami, will be part of the squad in the upcoming Test series against England.
"We wanted Bumrah, Shami and other bowlers to be 100% fit for the England tour. If we have a full-fit team, then obviously we will have a great series in England. So it's going to be a good challenge for us in England," said Rohit on Beyond23 Cricket Podcast
Bumrah last played for India in the five-Test match series against Australia, where he got injured while leading the side in the fifth Test of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25. On the other hand, Shami played his last Test match in 2023 against Australia on June 07. The speedster missed India's last tour to Australia since he was on the road to recovery from an injury he got during the ODI World Cup 2023 final.
After IPL 2025, Team India are scheduled to travel to England for the five-Test match series, which will start from June 20. The upcoming Test series will be India's first assignment for the upcoming World Test Championship cycle.
