Tamim Iqbal warned BCB over T20 WC row

BCB is adamant to not travel to India for the tournament

Former Bangladesh captain Tamim Iqbal believes that the issues between the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) and Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) can be resolved if members from both the cricket boards decide to communicate with each other. With the 2026 T20 World Cup being just a few weeks away, Tamim described the situation between the BCB and BCCI as "critical".

“The situation is a bit critical at the moment, and making a sudden comment right now is difficult. But one thing you must keep in mind is that many issues can often be resolved through dialogue if everyone comes together," Tamim was quoted as saying by Cricbuzz.

Tamim's clear-cut warning to BCB

Tamim further went on to warn the BCB over the matter and remarked that their decision can go on to affect Bangladesh cricket massively in the longer run. He also said that any hastily taken call can have major consequences towaqrds cricket in the country.

“You have to consider where Bangladesh stands in world cricket and what the future of Bangladesh cricket could be, and then make decisions accordingly,” he said. The former opener, widely respected for his leadership and longevity, underlined that cricketing decisions should be guided by long-term interests rather than short-term sentiment," Tamim stated.

“Today’s decisions will have an impact ten years down the line, so decisions should be taken by considering what is best for Bangladesh cricket and for Bangladeshi players — that is what I personally believe,” he added.

Tamim's statements come amid a standoff involving the International Cricket Council (ICC), BCCI and BCB. It all began after the Kolkata Knight Riders decided to release Mustafizur Rahman from their IPL 2026 squad amid reports of vilence against religious minorities in Bangladesh. As a reply, the BCB ordered a ban on IPL's broaadcast in the country and also sent a letter to the ICC, requesting them to shift their share of T20 World Cup matches from India to Sri Lanka.

ICC rejects BCB's demands

However, the ICC rejected BCB's demands and asked them to adhere to the schedule. But, the BCB remained adamant and decided to send a second letter to ICC, highlighting security concerns in India and requesting them once again to shift their matches to Sri Lanka. The global cricket body is yet to give  a reply to the second letter.

Meanwhile, Bangladesh have been drawn in Group C alongside England, Italy, Nepal and West Indies in the 2026 T20 World Cup. They were scheduled to play three games in Kolkata and one in Mumbai, but now it remains to be seen as to where will they be playing their matches.
