Pakistan captain Salman Ali Agha put all blame on his team's spinners

Pakistan captain Salman Ali Agha admitted that Men in Green's spinners had an off day against India in their T20 World Cup 2026 clash which they lost by 61 runs. India rode on Ishan Kishan's 40-ball 77 blitzkrieg to post a strong total of 175/7. In reply, Pakistan batters were left searching for answers before India bowlers and were folded for 114.

Our spinners had an off day: Salman Ali Agha

Pakistan fielded six spinners in front of Indian batters with an intent to unleash them. Captain Agha himself came to bowl the first over, and got the most prized wicket of Abhishek Sharma for a four-ball duck. But Ishan decided to counterattack and took Pakistan bowlers to the cleaners. Four of the six Pakistani spinners in Saim Ayub (3/25), Agha (1/5), Usman Tariq (24/1) and Mohammad Nawaz (0/28) bowled well. But the other two in Abrar Ahmed (0/38) and Shadab Khan (0/17) leaked runs like freebies.

Agha conceded that execution was missing from the Pakistani team.

"Our spinners had an off day. Execution was missing in some parts. We believe in our spinners, they've done well in last six months. We lost too many wickets in the powerplay with the bat. In the first innings it was tacky, the ball was gripping as well. The execution was missing with the ball. Pitch played better in the second innings than it did in the first. In these kind of games, the emotions are always going to be high. Have to deal with it. Have played enough games like that. Have a game in two days time, have to look forward to that. Need to win that game and qualify for the Super Eights. Then it's a new tournament again," Agha said at the post-match presentation.

But Pakistan batters were equally miserable. Barring Usman Khan (44), none of their batters managed to get past 25-run mark, courtesy to two fers from Hardik Pandya, Varun Chakaravarthy, Jasprit Bumrah, Axar Patel.

Notably, this was India's third consecutive win in the ongoing tournament, which helped them seal the Super 8 spot. India will next face the Netherlands on February 18 in Ahmedabad while Pakistan will take on Namibia on the same day in Colombo.
