Super Eight fixtures

The Super Eight stage features eight teams split into two groups of four. These groups were decided even before the tournament began. That means it does not matter whether a team finished first or second in its group; it moves into the already assigned Super Eight group.

If a pre-seeded team fails to qualify, the next best team from that group takes its place. Since Australia did not make it out of Group B, Zimbabwe have stepped into their fixed spot in Group 1 for the Super Eight stage.

How Australia knocked out of T20 World Cup 2026?

Australia needed Ireland to beat Zimbabwe, and after that, they had to defeat Oman by a big margin. On top of that, they were hoping Sri Lanka would also beat Zimbabwe in the final group match. After that, the side was also hoping Sri Lanka would beat Zimbabwe in the final group match. That would have left Zimbabwe stuck on four points, level with Australia. In that case, qualification would have depended on net run rate, and Australia would have needed a better one to move ahead. But as the clash between Ireland and Zimbabwe ended without a result, this means both teams shared the points. That took Zimbabwe to five points in the group table, which is a number Australia can no longer catch. Even if Mitch Marsh’s team beats Oman in their final group match on Friday, they can only reach four points.
