South Africa’s Under-19 team created history with a record-breaking performance against Tanzania, posting their highest-ever total in the tournament. The young Proteas piled up a massive 397 for 5, which is now the highest score by a South African side in the history of the Under-19 World Cup.

South Africa's innings vs Tanzania

The innings was built around brilliant centuries from Muhammed Bulbulia and Jason Rolls. Leading from the front, Captain Bulbulia scored 108 off 108 balls, while Rolls smashed 125 from 101 deliveries. Rolls’ knock included 10 fours and five sixes. The pair put on a commanding 201-run partnership for the third wicket, completely taking the game away from Tanzania.

Largest margin of victory in Youth One-Day International history

South Africa went on to complete their biggest-ever win in Under-19 cricket, thrashing Tanzania by 329 runs. It is now the largest margin of victory in Youth One-Day International history. Their previous biggest win had been by 278 runs against Zimbabwe.

Tanzania's chase

Chasing an impossible target, Tanzania were bowled out for just 68 runs in their 50 overs. Simba Bakari was the top scorer with 17, but the innings never got going. Tanzania were already five wickets down for 39, and their top five batters managed only 16 runs between them. Bayanda Majola and Jason Rolls led the bowling effort for South Africa, picking up two wickets each.

Coming back to the tournament, Sri Lanka currently sits at the top of Group A, while India leads Group B after winning both their matches. England are placed first in Group C, and Afghanistan top of Group D.
